8/7/2023 0 Comments Kite 2014 frenchThe regatta will be based from the Societe des Regates Rochelaises (SRR), a host organization that has performed many large-scale regattas in the recent past including the autumn French Olympic week under the old grade 1 / grade 2 system when World Sailing was ISAF. La Rochelle is a traditional nautical area, with a long history in modern and traditional sailing. This progressive sailing festival is meant to be a chance to bring together a like minded but diverse group of modern sailors. The final three days will be live broadcasted for free to the public as has been the tradition for the past number of years. ![]() There will be three days of qualification followed by three days of finals for the Olympic classes, with a format yet to be determined for the kites. Racing for the combined Europeans is scheduled from July 8-13, 2018, with pre-regatta formalities beginning on July 5th. The 49er, 49erFX, and mixed Nacra 17 are all Olympic class boats currently, and the foiling kitesurfer aims to gain Olympic status for 2024.Īll five events will also be included in the Aarhus 2018 Sailing World Championship which will also serve as the first qualifier for the 2020 Olympics. These sailors push modern craft to the highest levels. Together these events represent some of the most dynamic athletes in sailing. These 5 progressive sailing events will wow the nautical French city just one month before the first Olympic qualifiers. Add to this the fabulous commentary from Jean Lamoureux (CAN) and you end up with a show second to none.49er, 49erFX, Nacra 17, and Male/Female Foiling Kitesurf will compete for the joint 2018 European Championship in La Rochelle, France. This year we had displays by The Flying Squad (UK), Steff Ferme (F), Lisa Willoughby (USA), Now’Air (F), Loustiks (F), Fusion (UK), Panam’Air (F), Air Heads (UK), as well as the amazing skills of the multi-kite flying Jean Lemire (CAN) just to name a few. The crowds applaud and cheer enthusiastically inspiring the fliers to try just that little bit harder than normal. During the weekends the crowds gather 10 deep around the edge of the field to watch the shows. We have a large field all to ourselves complete with an ENORMOUS PA system. The sport kite fliers are to be found at the end of the field underneath the Chateau. ![]() Running down the centre of the field is the exhibition area and trade tents. The tents are a place of meeting to look at and talk about that countries kites and culture.ĭuring the day the tents are manned by the delegation who entertain, inform and educate the thousands of spectators who come to the festival. ![]() The festival itself is set on the 8 hectares of close-mown lawn that runs between the pebbled beach and the town.Ī row of white marquees line one side of the field, each tent hosts a different nation’s delegation. It is a magical and sometimes surreal experience! All around the town and at the festival site you could see and hear the sounds of these countries. This year two countries were selected India and Indonesia. All this was the back drop to the Dieppe Kite Festival 2014, one of the biggest kite events in the world.Įach year the festival focuses on a selected country, featuring the kites, costumes and culture of that country. There is a magnificent Chateau and an eclectic mix of architecture that add a sense of character and history to the town. Set in the beautiful countryside of the Haute-Normandie region of northern France, Dieppe is an historic town, strategically important since the 11th Century.
